概要
英語教室では、社会の多様なニーズに応える医療人の育成に必要なglobalで且つlocalな教養、コミュニケーションを通じた協働?共感する力、そして外国語を通じた言語運用能力を身に着けてもらう教育を目指しています。
具体的には本学医学部と保健医療学部と万博体育3.0手机版において、英語関連の科目——例えば、一般英語、専門英語（医学英語と保健医療英語）、アカデミック英語、英会話——の担当、そして医療人に必要とされる人文?社会科学的な教養や本学が力を入れている地域医療に対応できるような視座を涵養できるような科目の担当もしています。

研究内容
英語教室では、各々の専門領域を活かして「言語」と「人間?社会?文化」や「教育」に関わる研究をしています。概要は以下の通りです。
Kazuhiko Yamaguchi：Dr. Kazuhiko Yamaguchi’s interests lie in: (i) a cognitive-functional study of English language; (ii) linguistic typology (the study of the diversity of the languages of the world); and (iii) TESOL (Teaching of English to Other Speakers of Language) His current research projects are: (i) the description of BE-TO construction in English; (ii) the tendency of grammaticalization of auxiliary predicates in European and Asian languages; and (iii) the application of the corpus and cognitive linguistic approach to English phrasal verbs and the development of an effective teaching method of them.
Gregory Wheeler：Wheeler’s research is presently focused on Japanese medical professionals’ bedside manner and how it may often be perceived by non-Japanese patients. He is curious about exploring whether Japanese and non-Japanese patients may have different expectations concerning what is generally considered to be a “proper” bedside manner. Additionally, Wheeler has recently become interested in English by “native” speakers that may not always fit the strict definition of correct English. As he continues to research this topic, his hope is to place more emphasis on teaching this type of English in a classroom setting.
